Hi, I'm Karen!!
In case we haven't met yet, my name is Karen Campbell. I'm the Founder of Awesome Art School. For nearly a decade, I've been a full-time multi-media artist, instructor, and author of 19 art instructional books!

- How to Paint in a Variety of Mediums: Before you learn to successfully MIX your media, you need to understand how each medium works INDIVIDUALLY. One of the MOST FUN, is paint!! In the Mixed Media Society, you'll learn how to successfully work with individual types of paint from acrylics and watercolors, to gouache, encaustics (hot wax!!), and even fountain pen inks (yes- you can PAINT with inks)!!
- How to Mix Your Media: After you get a sense for how each type of paint works on its own, it's time to learn about what art supplies "play nicely" together. This way, you can build GORGEOUS mixed media art projects without making a hot mess! Follow my tried-and-true "recipes" for layering your supplies with ease using my Hamburger System (7 layers or less) and my Hot Dog System (4 layers or less).
- How to Paint a Variety of Subjects: When you're first starting out, we'll focus on some easier subjects like flowers and whimsical animals. As you advance we'll work our way up to faces at different angles. One of the things mixed media students LOVE, is I provide a traceable to get you started for EVERY project. That means there's literally NO NEED to know how to draw (unless YOU want to).
- How to Paint a Variety of Skin Tones: As we move into painting faces (my personal favorite!), lesson focus turns to blending and shading a diverse range of skin tones in a wide variety of mediums from acrylics and watercolor, to tombows, alcohol markers, and grayscale mark makers like the elegant writer & stabilo all!
- Celebrate the SEASONS with Your Art: What's better than enjoying the holidays? Embracing each season while you create projects you can decorate your home with for Halloween, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas & Valentine's! Sooo fun!!

Do I need any painting experience?
Nope! The Mixed Media Society is made for everyone, regardless of skill level. You’ll develop a full skill set as you go through the Awesome Artist Accelerator. Just bring your passion for learning, your sense of FUN, and you'll do GREAT!
Do I need lots of supplies?
No. That's the BEAUTY of my Hamburger System! It seems like you would need a ton of art supplies, but you don't. I'll share links to recommendations we'll use over and over that fit a variety of budgets, but you're always welcome to use what you love most and already have on hand.
I’m really busy. Do I need to be available at certain times? Not at all! The Mixed Media Society is designed for even the busiest of people.
